The MEGASTORAGE project proposes novel manufacturing and joining technologies for SiCf/SiC Ceramic Matrix Composites, to be validated as candidates for ultra-high temperature (> 1000°C) thermal energy storage systems, addressing the issues related to natural fluctuations of renewable energy sources and managing the possible time mismatch between energy production and consumption. In this context, IPCF-CNR will investigate innovative microwave heating methods to lower production costs thus enabling the use of SiCf/SiC components in Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) applications and beyond.
