Research activity carried out in this laboratory concerns the following topics:

  • Preparation of hydrid organic/inorganic nanostructures and bioconjugates with molecules of biological and biomedical interest.
  • Isolation, purification and characterization of extracellular nanovesicles from different biological fluids for diagnostic and therapeutic applications.
  • Cultures of microorganisms (bacteria, moulds and fungi) and their use for the evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of nanoparticles with photoactivity in the UV-Vis regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, in aqueous matrices and solid surfaces.
  • Development of immunological devices “point-of-care” for applications in the biomedical field.
  • Biomolecules assembling in supramolecular architectures for biosensing.
  • Production and characterization of molecular mechanisms for Bio-Hydrogen Production.
  • Molecular mechanism of bacterial photosynthesis.
  • Bio-photovoltaics.

The laboratory is also equipped with a Malvern Zetasizer Nano S (in collaboration with the Università degli Studi di Bari).
