Stefano Pezzini
Research Fellow - Pisa
Research interests
Stefano’s work is mainly focused on the development and optimization of low environmental impact extraction and purification methods of PHA produced by photosynthetic microorganisms and their use in digestate encapsulation. He has worked on the qualitative-quantitative separation and characterization of microplastics from environmental matrices, in particular marine and oceanic sediments, with the aim of mapping the distribution and pollution of microplastics in water, in sediments and marine biota. For this reason, he’s carrying out several studies on the behavior of microplastics and the effects and chemical changes resulting from photo and thermo-oxidative aging with particular attention to their chemical, thermal, spectroscopic and dimensional characterization.
