Acoustic Trapping

In acoustic trapping, sound waves in the ultrasonic range are used to confine and manipulate millimeter and submillimeter particles in air or a fluid. In our lab three different acoustic tweezers setups, based on arrays of low cost ultrasonics transducers, have recently allowed the trapping and manipulation of solid and liquid samples in air. Our activity aims at the realization of hybrid acousto-optic setups for the trapping, manipulation and spectroscopic investigation of samples of interest in environmental monitoring and space missions.
