EQUINOISE tackles a broader and increasingly urgent issue: ensuring equity in environmental noise impact assessments across diverse sources (road, rail, airport, industries). In a context where urban populations are growing and environmental pressures intensifying, the need for fair and data-driven noise management has never been more critical. Instead of relying exclusively on energy-based indicators, EQUINOISE incorporates human perception by applying dose–response relationships related to annoyance (%HA) and sleep disturbance (%HSD). EQUINOISE employs a suite of Equity-Adjusted Exposure indicators: equalized Noise Source Predominance map (eNSP), equalized Intensity Noise Source Predominance map (eI-NSP), Equalized Predominant Exposure for equally highly annoyed (eHAPE), and Equalized Predominant Exposure for equally highly sleep disturbed (eHSDPE). They allow for detailed analysis of which sources dominate specific areas and how this relates to health-based thresholds and population vulnerability.
