Attività di Ricerca

From 1999 the research activity was focused in the field of scientific and applicative research in macromolecular chemistry and material science with particular attention to design, synthesis, characterization and post-modification of polymeric materials from natural and renewable resources.
In this period, part of the time was spent in the coordination of the scientific acitivities of the research unit in project founded by regional, national and european institutions. The research is actually described in the CNR Projects” Progettazione, preparazione e proprietà di materiali polimerici multifasici e/o funzionali a struttura e composizione modulabile” MD.P01.026.001. The most important investigated research lines are:
1) study of morphological behavior and specific functional properties of immiscible or non-compatible polymer blends of biodegradable and/or compostable polyesters by using calorimetric, spectroscopic, mechanical techniques and by use of low molecular weight internal probes;
2) Chemical synthesis of biodegradable and/or compostable polyesters with useful chemical functionality for biochemical and nanotechnological applications;
3) preparation and characterization of composite materials with matrices from natural or renewable materials containing organic or inorganic fillers organically modified with possibility to give nanostructured architectures with functional properties;
4) correlation between the macroscopic behavior of hybrid materials from natural and/or synthetic polymers interacting with modifying molecules and computational chemistry approach

Competenze

Design and Synthesis of macromolecular structure by ring-opening polymerization and polycondansation.
Post-modification of macromolecular structure by: radical functionalization in solution or in the molten state; transesterification reaction in solution or in the molten state; physical and reactive blending, composite production in solution or in the molten state with fillers from nano to macro dimensions. Tunability of the final properties by proper design of the macromolecular structure.
Characterization of polymer materials by morphological, chemical, thermal, mechanical properties.
Correlation of the molecular features with the final properties of the materials
