Lazzeri Andrea

Prof. Andrea Lazzeri is Head of the Center for Materials Science and Engineering of the University of Pisa since 2013 and director of the master degree course in Materials and Nanotechnology. He is associate member of IPCF-CNR and ICCOM-CNR. He is also representative of the University of Pisa in the scientific board of the Regional Technological District for New Materials.
He started his career graduating as Chemical Engineer (University of Pisa, 1982). Then in 1991, he obtained his PhD in Advanced Materials (Cranfield University, UK). In 1984, he became researcher at the University of Pisa. In 1999-2000 he was visiting scientist at MIT, Boston. In 2002, he became Associate Professor at University of Pisa and later, in 2008 became Full Professor in the same university, where he teaches several courses in the field of Materials Science and Engineering, biobased polymers and composites, plastic processing and polymers characterization.
He was co-director of the Master in Yacht Engineering (http://www.masterye.org), currently in progress the IV edition, which is held in Viareggio. The master is organized by the University of Pisa in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Florence and with the support of the Municipality of Viareggio, the Province and the Chamber of Commerce of Lucca, and of the nautical yards of Viareggio.
During the last two decades, his major research projects have dealt with processing and mechanical properties of polymer-matrix and ceramic-matrix composites and biobased and/or biodegradable polymers for environmental applications. He has been coordinator of three European projects: Forbioplast, Helm and NanoCathedral.
He has published about 160 scientific communications with around 2600 citations.
